Developing World Case Study 2

Keeping the World Green

In effort to reduce Global Warming, GTS was contracted by Green Star Products, Inc to airfreight the first Bio-Diesel reactor to Johannesburg, South Africa. This promising, new technology uses algae to produce Bio-Diesel energy. The large and heavy reactor was the last piece to be implemented into an existing bio-diesel plant, so that operations could commence in South Africa.

Challenges:

  •      Oversized Shipment
  •      Time Sensitive
  •      Trucking

Solutions:

The over-sized reactor limited  routing options (only a freighter service could accommodate the forwarding of such a long piece) from Seattle to Johannesburg.  After thorough research, only one airline was capable of moving the shipment within the offered timeframe. GTS reserved space with this airline two weeks prior to the shipment’s departure. GTS also verified with both the shipper and airline that they had the proper loading equipment, and qualified staff to both move the cargo and build the reactor on an aircraft pallet without damage. A flatbed truck was used to deliver the reactor to the airport. GTS tracked, and updated, the movement of the shipment until it arrived in Johannesburg.

Results:

GTS’ continual pro-activite efforts and follow-up ensured the reactor arrived as to its final destination in a timely fashion and in perfect condition. The reactor was installed and running within a month of delivery. The GTS Group was felicitated for its work and dedication. Since then, the GTS Group has moved several reactors to the same destination.
